He may now be based in Los Angeles but, for Adelaide-born Hugh Sheridan – who won Australian hearts playing Ben Rafter on TV’s packed to the rafters – there’s still no place like home
Favourite coffee spot?
I love Argo in Victoria Square. They’ve also got a lot of great vegan stuff there.
Favourite place for dinner?
I can’t go past Sean’s Kitchen. Sean is a mate and the food there is always brilliant.
In Adelaide I love to …
See my family and friends and catch up with everyone and hang out with them, but I also love heading to Adelaide Oval or Grange Beach.
Fondest memory of Adelaide?
Singing the national anthem at the first match at Adelaide Oval. There were 62,000 people at the first Showdown at the Oval. Port won, thank God. I watched the whole game in the Redbacks club room because I was so nervous. I ended up sitting there with my brother watching it in silence. We were so stressed about the outcome of the game, we were too afraid to go out. We could hear the crowd. As I knew we were going to win, we finally went outside.
Last time I was in Adelaide …
I was performing with California Crooners Club at the Fringe. It was amazing this year. I think my first Fringe last year was just mind-blowing after not seeing it for so long. To come back this year as an ambassador was amazing. The parade was so surreal, I felt like I was in the (Christmas) Pageant. It was the same night as Guns N’ Roses and there were just people EVERYWHERE, and they were cheering and everything. I just felt so elated by the whole experience.
Next time I will …
Meet my new cousin Emma, who has just been born.
Must dos …
Late-Night dessert at Spats and a movie at the Capri, and take a walk through the Botanic Gardens.
