The 39 Steps — State Theatre Company
August 19 to September 11
British comic playwright Patrick Barlow borrows from both the original John Buchan novel and Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 classic film to create a show that is equal parts farce, clowning masterclass and heart-stopping noir thriller. This deranged comedy features four actors, playing 139 roles, in 100 minutes of fast-paced action and riotous invention as the debonair Richard Hannay is pulled into a web of intrigue and deceit. After nine years on the West End, where it won the Olivier Award for best comedy, this brand new production to the Adelaide stage is set to warm up the tail end of winter.
