With first class events delighting punters all year round, South Australia is keeping a tight grip on its well-known reputation of being the Festival State of Australia
It’s a Right Royal Make-Over
The grand old lady of Adelaide venues, Her Majesty’s Theatre, is about to undergo a major $35 million makeover to restore an additional balcony of seating and build a modern foyer with new audience facilities on adjoining land.
An improved orchestra pit and state-of-the-art technical upgrade, coupled with the increase in capacity from 970 to around 1500 seats, will make the century-old theatre suitable to meet growing demand from major musical productions as well as other touring stage blockbusters. Work on the venue will be funded with $32 million from the State Government over three years and is expected to be complete by 2019.
In the meantime, Her Majesty’s will continue to present international shows:
Argentinian dance superstar German Cornejo’s Tango Fire,
Shadowland by contemporary US troupe Pilobolus,
John Cleese’s theatrical comedy Fawlty Towers,
October 26 to November 6.
